The automotive industry is rapidly transitioning toward the era of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). As we embark on this transformative journey, collaboration becomes paramount. Enter the SDV Alliance, a unique collaboration of SDV relevant consortia— initially AUTOSAR, Eclipse SDV, COVESA and SOAFEE—working together to harmonize standards, methodologies, and technologies for SDVs. The SDV Alliance bridges gaps not only within individual consortia but also between them. By clarifying each consortium’s contributions and demonstrating their interconnectedness, the Alliance aims to create a unified vision for SDVs.
The Alliance embraces existing SDV descriptions from various efforts and external organizations. It seeks to agree on a clear, unified definition of what constitutes an SDV. Recognizing the complexity of SDVs, the Alliance pools core competencies from each organization. By aligning methodologies and standards, it ensures seamless development across varied execution environments. SOAFEE advocates for a cloud-native approach to SDVs. Leveraging containerization, microservices, and orchestration, SOAFEE enables scalable, resilient, and secure software deployment. The cloud becomes the backbone for SDV services, allowing dynamic updates, data sharing, and edge-to-cloud communication. With over 360 global partners, AUTOSAR brings extensive experience in in-vehicle software. AUTOSAR aims to facilitate a smooth transition to the SDV future, leveraging existing technologies and joint developments.
The SDV Alliance represents a collaborative force that transcends organizational boundaries. By aligning efforts, defining SDVs, and showcasing technical synergy, we pave the way for a reality where software-defined vehicles thrive. In this presentation, we want to show AUTOSARs answers to the SDV Challenge and the SDV Alliance in general.

The AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System Architecture) development partnership has grown to over 300 partner companies, who established the globaly recognized AUOTSAR Software Framework focusing on Safety and Security. The disruptive changes towards an open Software Defined Vehicle concerns the automotive industry completely and the existing standardization organizations and their standards have to adapt to the changes. Based on its years of expertise, AUTOSAR plans to take on challenges of future applications together with other partners and to open itself as part of the Automotive Development Ecosystem of tomorrow. AUTOSAR plans to make parts of the established AUTOSAR-Standards Classic Platform better accessible for high real-time demands and the Adaptive Platform for High-End-Computing but also focuses on establishing new open standards for the compatibility with the IoT-World. 20 years of standardization experiences in AUTOSAR also gave us learnings what is essential in standardization in general which we would like to share.
