Jens Paggel tries to cause the proliferation of lean and agile methods and ideas in research and development as internal coach and consultant in the Continental Business Systems organization for entire Continental. He works with various internal partners and allies throughout the organization in an international setup in all areas of the automotive supplier business.
Jens has an education as researcher and teacher in the academic world with the subject of experimental physics. In 2004 he moved to a tier 1 supplier to start his journey from function development and function architecture in the safety area via system project management, quality management, back to project management then in vehicle emissions context finally to gasoline fuel injection functions. From there he entered a role as consultant and specialist for development methods. He currently works on the system rather than in the system.
His current interests range from conceptual work on the topics of training strategies or rather methods where he re-iterates the idea of self-similarity and the interaction between product architecture and organizational structures in addition to his responsibility to train, develop and consult on method application. He is 53 years old and now lives for nearly 15 years in Lower Bavaria (Germany).

The automotive industry is undergoing a profound transformation with the advent of software-defined vehicles. These vehicles rely heavily on software to control and optimize their functionality, driving experiences, and safety features. Agile concepts are probably THE concept for developing customer-centric results fast, and reliably. Regarding adaptability, serviceability, and modularity, there often is potential for improvement. I will analyze and borrow a few concepts from system theory to reduce complexity and the associated challenges. Complexity may be fun to control and manage, but in the end, complexity slows innovation down. On the way to reducing complexity, I will re-evaluate if agile is the only concept to employ.
In this session, you will get a better understanding of the following:
